Quiet boards and wild boards

On a quiet board the nuts stays the nuts. On a wild board it changes with every card.

A board with a pair, or with three of a suit, is quiet: the best hand on the flop is usually still the best hand on the river. A board of connected cards without a pair is wild: a straight on the turn beats a set, a flush on the river beats the straight, and whoever held the nuts on the flop is often not holding it at the end.

The colour of a board does not change with this, but what you do with the colour does. Red on a quiet board is a hand to build a pot with slowly, because nothing is coming to beat you and you want callers. Red on a wild board is a hand to bet the pot with now, because every card that comes can take it away and you want the draws to pay or leave. Middle set on a wild board is the classic trap: it looks like red and plays like yellow.

From today the drill shows both boards together and asks for both colours, the way you will have to read them at the table.

A wrap is three of mine in a row, joined to the board.
