The nuts on every texture

Before you can know what you hold, you must know what the best possible hand is.

The first question on every board is not "what do I have" but "what is the best hand possible here". Then you compare. A board with three of a suit: the nut flush, ace of that suit plus one more. A board with a pair: a full house or quads, and the nuts is the highest full house, so on K-K-7 it is K-7 in your hand, and on K-7-7 it is K-K. Three connected cards: the highest straight, and you need the two cards above the top of the run. A dry, rainbow, unconnected board like K-7-2: top set.

Omaha adds the rule that trips the Hold'em player every time: exactly two cards from your hand, three from the board. A single ace of the suit is not a flush. A pair in your hand plus one board card is a set; one card in your hand plus a board pair is trips, which is a different and weaker thing. A-K with A-A-K on the board is not a full house unless you use both.

Today the drill keeps dealing boards and you keep colouring them, but now ask the first question first. Name the nuts, then look at your hand.

A nut straight is not a nut flush.
